hiya, random question but iv got a 1.6 8v gsi engine with an f13 box, when i fitted it i found that my 1.2 shafts fitted the box. without takin it to bits again does anyone know what inner cvs/shafts i am likely to have as im thinking of changing the engine again for a redtop:Dcheers.

generaly it is only the gsi or gte shafts which are 22 spline and able to be used to big block engine conversions. apparently some TD's had the 22 spline shafts but i have not come across this myself.

I dont think its the inner CV thats different, well not the Gear Box end.

From my understanding the part of the CV that the Drive fits into is where the difference lays.

it is the gearbox end, the small block gearboxes (f10/13 etc) are different spline to the the big block boxes (f16/20 etc)

Get a picture of the inner CV and i'll tell you if the shafts are 22 spline ones or not. If they are the original 1.2 ones they are definitely not.

If the inner CV looks like this, then its a 22spline shaft:

Note that all of the outer CV's are the same, 28 splines or suchlike.

Aye, its the number of splines on the inner SHAFT end.

A f13 box is a small block box, so any nova shafts will fit it.

Nova gte/td had 22spline shafts, the majority of gsi's didn't.

ok thanks for your help. i know it will have probably been covered but what else other then the shafts would i need to do the conversion using gm parts as money is a bit short and would like to make/source my own parts rather than buy the kit

You need those shafts, and the inner CV's from a mk2 cav 1.6

ok what else do i need like mounts and things? i know about the o/s/f chassis has to be modified for the alternator but not really sure about other things. if i bought a full cavvy or calibra would the shafts from either of those fit ie are they 22 spline shafts?

Cav/cally shafts are far too long, you need Nova shafts.

Cheers. Got some spare skirts that have been painted black but they aren't in the best condition, have a few screw holes in them.
