Has anyone got any pics of there Avo Nova front coilovers like below.
Mine are really starting to bug me, they seem to bottom out on the top of the strut body highlighted below.
Its as if the strut body is too long.
I'm starting to think maybe there not for a nova.

Whats been catching the top of the body, the top spring seat ??
What length is the body / shock (open & closed) ? what length springs ? I've got my GAZ ones off the car at the minuet, could measure them to give you an idea.

They look identical to mine Nath i think. Will check later

Longer springs/ a higher ride height would stop that happening though???

I had this problem, hence why I don't run Avo's any more. Even tried eccentric top mounts for more clearance with no joy. Running Gaz ones now as they have a shorter body.

Yes i can raise them to give more clearance.
My spax rsx bodies were much shorter.
Really has pissed me off tbh LOL. As i wanted to run it low'ish.

Think mine are identical

EDIT-Actually, the top of the body on mine is flat, yours looks like its angled(the bit circled in red)
And i think the threaded section on mine goes further up the body? Whether that matters, not sure

Adam, can you measure the length of the body for me. Cheers

From the bottom of the strut(where it bolts) to the top of the body yeah?

Whats been catching on them ?? Do you not run any bump stops ??
Got some measurments of my GAZ ones if you want them ? (probly not any use!)

AVO made it clear to me to not use bump stops.

Nath-From the bottom of the strut to the top of the body is about 30cm. Measuring up, kind of through the "V" on the Avo sticker on your pic.

Cant see why they say that, if there bottoming out that badly i'd be fitting some.

Cheers rich, could do with Avo measurements.

Its the top hat of the spring hitting the top of the strut body if that makes sense. Like i say i can always raise the suspension but its not ideally what i want to do.

Adam, i'll go and measure mine now.

31cm. so 10mm difference , not alot really. I'll just have to run it higher.

Probably identical then tbh, with them being so close, measurement wise.

Not being able run low aint good, wanted wind mine down for shows and the like, but keep them high for track/daily driving.

Spring choice will help i think. Any pics of the height its at atm?

What poundage springs you running ?

nathan.

300lbs

Ad, i'll take some pictures of ride heights at the weekend. Its still on axle stands at the mo.

Even if you raise the ride height it could still bottom out, raising it is just gonna give you more travel, will still bottom out with a big hit.
Spring rates are the same as mine, my shock body measures 285mm (measured same way as in your pic), mine have some pretty big bump stops as well (about 60mm, some weird cone shape), sure without them they'd bottom out like yours.
I'd fit some bump stops, job sorted !?!?

But fitting bump stops wont stop the problem, it'll just have the car sitting on the bump stops, not good for handling surely?

Correct. When my Avo's were set low the piston was pretty much all the way in the shocker body with no bump stop on. Had loads of problems with them.

How low could you go Lee?

Lee H

About as low as my red one is but it was bottoming out badly. Also got to remember I had the eccentric top mounts on to give more clearance too.

i take it avo's arent damping adjustable then...?

Ok, this seems like a stupid question mate, but those top parts on your shocks, are they the cap that holds the insert in place? If so it looks like these have been fitted awkwardly and so the inert isnt sitting in tight, hense the bottoming out.

Yes they are for about 50 miles until the seals pop.

sry to gate crash the thread a bit - but im having similar issues, i think, with my rally-lark front coilovers in that it feels like theres no front springs when wound all the way down , ride height wise.. tough as fook ride..
I thought GAZ coilovers max'ed out ride-height wise at 65mm lowering alround..?

Gaz ones can be ordered in two lenghts. One is shorther than the Avo ones so will go lower than the Avo's.

ahh.. and no bottoming out etc...? cool. Lowers ones bank balance a tad tho eh..? lol

As said, Gaz do a low version of their coiloverer units .. i've just put some on my saloon.
Dampertech will make you a set in 3 weeks..

Cost with spring is approx 400 iirc :thumb:
