im proper newbie to this forum and basically with novas.
in the simlpest terms. i want to find the smallest engine nova possible and replace it with c20xe.
ive been looking around the forums etc and trying to figure out what needs done but im looking for some advice from somebody who has done it as all my brothers and friends are civic freaks and all i hear is b16 b18 d16 single cam vtec all day. but i cant insure a honda civic.

my main idea was cheap nova, cheap calibra/cavilier. yoink the engine and and scrap the calibra. but dont quite understand if drive shafts that need changed and engine mounts and the fuel tank

as im new to the forum i am not sure as if im going to get replys saying jog on or something help full.
any advice would be handy:thumb:

Theres all sorts of guides and threads on here about it.

http://www.pngclub.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=71

Best way to do it is start with a 1.2 injection model, change the in-tank pump for a multipoint pump.

Buy a mounting kit from chrisastley etc which will come with a gearbox spacer kit, drivers engine mounting and all the nuts/bolts/washers

Driveshafts - cheapest option is a set of gte (22 spline inner) driveshafts, you then use mk2 cavalier 1600 inner joints. This lets you use standard nova outer hubs.

You will need to cut/weld the drivers chassis leg to clear the alternator. Best off stitch welding the engine bay while its empty too for strenght.

Best bet is searching for WIP threads and looking for threads where other people have asked as theres always going to be little things that people forget to mention.

If you cant insure a 1.6 civic, how are you going to insure a c20xe nova? Im guessing by your posts its not getting registered and you are going to insure it as a 1200. Am i right?

we don't condone defrauding insurance companies on this forum.

basically every petrol engined hatch nova has the same bodyshell, so everything will fit from every other nova, with a few minor mods...
as said above, look at the how to guides & the search option, because we get asked this stuff week in week out, and to be honest, anyone with common sense & a decent set of tools & some haynes books can stick an xe in a nova & drive it away the same day.

if you read the article section there is a how to fit a 2.0 16V engine guide in there.

covers lots of aspects that you asked about.

start off with a nova GSI 1.6 learn to drive it properly get a couple of years NCB and then do a 2.0l conversion.

clearly you havent read the guide... fuel tanks are covered in the first paragraph (after the itallics), and the drive shafts are covered a few sections down.

I'm sorry but I'm a little concerned at the fact you're going to do this conversion simply to beat Civics as you're unable to get insured in one.

1 of 3 things will happen here.

1. You'll stuff your car because you cant drive it.
2. Someone will report you for Fraud and you'll get an ass kicking
3. None of the above will happen and you'll continue to give the Vauxhall Nova Chav status.

You need to sit and think about what you want, what it'll take to get it and what might happen if you do it wrong. Dont be a chav.
