will a 1600 head fit on a 1800 bottom end??
no lol. they are interchangable between the x14xe/x16xe/x16xel and c16xe. the small block 1800's are all diffarent.
how so? im not disagreeing, would just like more info

Mr Burgos,
if you look at 2 head gaskets you will see why.
thats not that helpful is it and i dont have the two head gaskets
I'm with Burgo here. Surely if its a small block the heads should fit unless Vauxhall mada a Medium Block and thats what the Baby 1800 is?
i'd of thought they would of bolted together too, but dunno
burgo - may be worth dropping lee303 on mig a pm, he may know more, as he's ripped both apart and go the 1800 in his nova :thumb:
well im sure it was only the bottom ends that were different. i know the 1800 combustion chamber may be bigger but that doesnt matter. even water jacket holes and crap dont matter as i cant change all that.
i may just do that ste

Will a 1600 head fit a 1400? If so what benifits does this have? :thumb:
(sorry for the thread hi-jack)
the 1800 head studs are apparently in a different place to the 1.6 and 1.4S
cant remembe exactly but it was either the head bolts not lining up or some main oil/water ways were just too far out.
the c16xe head has larger inlet ports so on a tuned engine you will see better gains using a c16xe head on either x14xe/x16xe/x16xel
No it doesn't fit on a 1800 block.
The s/b 1800 block has a internal breather system within the crankcase(so the block/head/head gasket has extra galleries), whereas the 1600 block has an external breather through external rubber pipes so doesn't have the galleries.

The later x16xel heads(with triangle inlet ports) are actually better than c16xe heads, the port flows better. Proven by SBD too
ive never heard of that mate.
here is a snip from sbd and they are on about the c16xe head
"*The results have been achieved using a Corsa GSI, which has larger ports than later heads, if you are running any other cylinder head the results can vary. We have had reports of engines producing 10 to 20 bhp less." (part number 90 472 726)
the x16xel normaly uses the same head as the x14xe, and the triangular porrt version looks tiny compared to a c16xe head...
Yup, and carry on reading ;)
The very latest head casting (number: 90400187) uses triangular inlet ports, which work a lot better, gaining up to 12bp.
Bigger ports aren't always better, infact enlarging ports can loose power to an extent, due to reduce air speed through the port.

Bit late but a bloke at work fitted a 1.6 16v head to a 1.8 16v bottom end in his corsa sport, not sure what he did to his head gasket but he modified it.
