i was thinking a metal scraper, but would probably end up scoring the body to crap, or have u gotta make a bit of a sacrifice to get it off, then slap some hardcore stuff down ontop to stop the rust
best way is to wait for a cold day then it should come of easier

Heatgun and a scraper, if you wear the edges down on the scraper so they are smooth it shouldn't scratch too much. Then use a bit of white spirit to clean up the last bits of tar.
I've used some black hammerite underbody stone chip spray paint on my floor and it's lasted really well against scuffing from feet etc. :thumb:
Don't use the heat gun, that makes it a mare, far better just chipping it off. Should lift easily
mine lifted very easy, but I was quite shocked at what I found underneath!
hammer and chisel...wide chisel at that

Why? Did the floor come with it? lol
I found my sound deadening was tough as fook to remove, got the drives side done, gave up on the passenger side.
Just keep lifting up tiny pieces and then just breaking.
Ive seen other people lift the entire piece up in one go though. So you may get lucky

heh burgo, your just saying that so i rip up big chunks of paint with the padding, cos we get along so well lol
i like the sound of the blunt scraper action and hammerite to finish.
thinkin about it, ive got a 2" masonary chisel thats worn smooth from tw4tting bricks and tiles, probably do the job nicely.
not got a heatgun, think ive got a hairdryer kicking about somewhere tho, reckon thatll penetrate, or be too pussy ?
yeh a previous nova, i swear the floor was practically held together with the sound deadening as it was so rusty, but this nova seems almost mint all over bar a few usual notorious places. glad i didnt sell it in the end, will make a nice project i reckon.
cheers for info lads :thumb:
the sound deadening probably weighs as much as a doner kebab, why bother?

I've scraped off just my passenger footwell and put all pieces into a box and I can tell you now there's a fait bit of weight there! more than you'd think.

every car I've driven without any sound deadening is a very noisy uncomfortable experience. you may get 20kg off the whole car, or 5% in weight terms.... it will probably take 2-3 days to do it, & cost you £30-50 in paint, thus a total cost in real terms of around £200 because time is worth money.
£200 will buy you 5hp & keep your car quiet.
This is obviously my opinion & is open to comment

tin o hammerite will only be a fiver or so.
means i can go back to the kebab van for seconds.
I heated mine to almost bubbling point in the centre, lifted one edge and the lot peeled off in one go. You'll need petrol, Diesel of Thinners to remove whats left laying on the floor. It will make the car noiseier and "Tinny" sounding as will stripping out but what I've done (before Respray) was fitted fireresistand "Rockwool" quilt insulation into the rear 1/4s and as much as I could in the doors. These were then sealed in with a DMP (clear Polythene) and the origional door cards fitted over them. I drove for a while with the boot open and the windows down to remove any irritants from the cars cockpit and it was a much more comfortable and quiet drive.

funny one to place really.
In reference to the slightly odd comments mowgli, you would only remove sound deadening for 2 reasons.
1 - You're going to replace it with dynmat or something better quality
2 - Weightloss in a track car.
Its a no-brainer that if you remove Sound Deadening it will make the car noisy.
As to taking 2-3 days to do I'd hate for you to do any work for me on an hourly rate!
I'm just saying mate, chill out.

As far as pulling up, my passenger side came up with ease. As you can see in the pic I used a small steak knife! lol

Drivers side was less helpfull and will need a bit heat!
As mentioned above, petrol or tar remover will get rid off the excess.
