Hi folks,

I was wondering if it is worth fitting an oil cooler on my 1.6 8v?
The spec is
1650cc bottom end
lightened and balanced
arp bolts
mild kent cam
vernier adjustable pulley
skimmed head
inlet ports matched
twin weber 40 carbs

Its going to be used for fast road and track days, I understand that the oil needs to be the right temperature and that too cooler oil can be just as bad as oil thats been cooked for the engine.

with track use and lots of high revs in mind it wouldnt hurt having one. you can get one with a built in thermostat so that it only works when it needs to.

the only way to be sure would be to get a oil temp guage to see what temperature its running at. might be worth a try as its cheaper than a cooler setup.

you could also change the oil after each track day... £15 is cheap insurance

I'd put an oil temp gauge in the sump and see what the temperature gets to when being thrashed..... if the sump temp goes over 110Deg C then yeah fit one.

if not then do as mowgli said :D
