Rev gauge flickering

Put some Gte clocks in my 1l and ive ran a wire from the coil to the clocks but when its running nothing happens? sometimes when it turns over to start it will move but only to about 3-400rpm.Took the clocks out and held the bare wire on the connection all it does is flicker up as if im really revving it to ballacks,all connection lookks ok and the copper lines look in one piece.Im out of ideas! Any help always appreciated.

which wire have you connected it to one the coil?

Its a seperate wire i put in myself and either of the 2 connections i put it on make it do this.Why?

Could it be a dodgy set of clocks? everything else works fine?
