Right been thinking today as smokey joes engine is knocking like a spaz (was knocking badly when i got it lol) and is making about 25bhp at the flywheel. Ive given is some right sh*t for the last year and I have decided to get it through another MOT and have it another year at least as its dirt cheap to run an takes everything I throw at it.

But ive been thinking about recently about dropping something else in, was thinking 1.7td and turn the boost an fueling up. I like the idea of wheel spinning down the road in a cloud of black smoke, a true sleeper with still a diesel engine lol.

I have no idea of the diesels to be honest and ive just seen some frontera's 2.8's or other Isuzu engines. Any of these mate up to vauxhall fwd box easily, as i think that would a seriously piss funny daily smoke around.

sounds like worn/blocked/coked injectors with poor spray pattern, cleaning them or changing them will restore a lot of the lost power, stop the knocking and reduce the smoke.

have a nice evening mr philsutton

pffffffft ive been running it on cooking oil for 10k miles, still forget that I want an excuse to fit some diesel and stupidly big. My thoughts are that fronteras come with a 2lt 8v and thus the box that must fit onto must be the same bolt pattern as the normal F16? so the 2.8 will be the same, or does that use a completely different box?

2.8 diesel corsa would make me laugh and it means that my car will actually move when I have 600kg of scrap metal in the back lol

yep just like that, even when you have a seriously tuned diesel they still sound like tractors lol

The 2.8 was sourced from Izuzu (trooper), along with the gearbox, so it's highly unlikley that you'll find a fwd box that'll fit.

People fit fwd boxes to rover V8's plus the, plus the Isuzu Trooper is the frontera just a different name.

So was the 1.5 in the Nova, which mates to the vauxhall box. I wouldn't see it being a problem as they use vaux engines int eh fronty as well, and I doubt they would change the gearbox setup as well.

I doubt mine will last beyone its MOT date of september, and im already eyeing up the 2.4 8v to drop into a nova lol

i think you'll find the 2.4 8v is the old cih manta type engine......
the 2.2 16v should fit...
the big isuzu diesel lumps are gigantic long stroke things, I can't see how one would fit in a nova, unless you mounted it in the back, with the gbox facing the front & some diffs turned upside down, a sort of farmers 6r4

hmmmmm sounds like too much work, so you dont reckon a 3.1 montery engine will go in? lol

What power can you get out the 1.5td and can a 3.1 monterey turbo bolt on all right?

fit a 1.7td out of a cavvy or astra. you dont need a bigger turbo as the standard one boosts more than the engine can take and spools up plenty quick enough

oh as for power, i recon 130bhp is easy enough. torque i recon 180lb ft ish

Frontera's had at least 3 different gearbox's fitted, from what I've found out the one on the 2.8td was unique to that engine.

Theres a few local lads powering Corsas and Novas with 17tds using Frontera Turbos and CR F16 Boxes. They seem to work well until the engines heat up too much.

I'm hoping to get a 17TD into my Corsa A Van and seeing what I can get out of it. Anything Bigger seems highly unlikely.

Wouldnt be to hard to fab an adapter plate for the gearbox, space could b the biggest issue though,

Why not just use a vectra 2.2di engine.

arent they the ones with the fuel pumps that just fail even if its parked on your drive? I was thinking the others due to being isuzu and are generally a bit more robust, plus it'll still run on cooking oil.

burgo

plus its much harder to "tune" a modern engine. with the izuzu it take 5 mins to adjust the fuel and boost

latest 1.9cdti takes about 30 seconds to plug a box in....

Ben
07-07-08, 05:41 PM

burgo

General Baxter
