Been over my local motorfactors this morning to pick up a rocker & inlet manifold gasket.

Asked her for the rocker gasket, mentioned i need a cork one not a rubber item, she replies "oh there all cork anyway on that engine (E16SE)". Hhhhhmmmmm, must just be me but im sure some ARE rubber

Anyway, come the inlet gasket, fook me, she didnt have a clue! "Oh, you need this one (SR item is handed to me?) and she said it was for my engine and a 1.3/1.6injection? I was like, this IS NOT what i need, however adamant as she was i took it home to match my inlet. Wrong item. Took the inlet to her. "Oh that inlets from a 1.6 8v Corsa  with a X16SE engine? WTF? There is no such thing!!

Went to a local Vauxhall Breaker Specialist. A2B Vauxhall. He informed me that all 1.3 and 1.4 were injection and i needed that gasket lol lol

Off to Vauxhall, informed him of this polavor and he couldnt stop laughting!! Had a reet gabber about this 1.6 8v Corsa too! New gasket from GM, £8 odd with VAT. Will be here on Tuesday.

Whilst he had EPC up, i had a look at some other GTE/GSi parts, E16SE EGR valve, i have 2 spare here, they retail for £234.70  and that stupid little valve thing that hangs under the 1.6 inlet (exhaust idle valve or something) they were £101 when new, however there now NLS. I have several here. Off to eBay for me.......

Ive had exactly the same problem before.
I think there parts manuals must be incorrect.

The "fail" part of the story was due to the fact that a woman was involved and clearly out of her depth. Her chain needs shortening so she's back where she belongs ie at the sink next to the washing machinelol

There's a female working at one of my local motor factors too - the book isn't always right love!

lol lmao /\

Ive had the same trouble before too Mike.
Hence i mainly use ebay for gaskets now where i can actually see what im buying, and not get read a description from an incorrent parts book.

I've got a spare inlet gasket for a C14SE somewhere, didn't have any trouble at my lo-mo-fo's getting that.

haha sounds about right, I had an arguement with one auto factors about the fact that mk2 cavs are rwd (thats what they said, his book said that so it was true). No amount of telling them would get it across though.

i try not to bother with any around here. Gm, ebay or halfords. If i cant get it from any of them i just get my mates garage to order it in :)
