i wont mention what my grades were - but needless to say i feel the education system in this country is rubbish and it let me down. haha.
I was a bit of an arse at school from age 13 onwards, before that i was a proper little nerd.- after 13 i was never turning up - never doing any work - by the time i grew up and realised this would affect the rest of my life it was too late. Course work deadlines were two weeks away - so i had to rush through ALL of my course work as I had done none, for any subjects...
Managed to get that lot done, to a poor standard really, and that affected my grades so badly... my knowledge of the subjects was good enough to pass an exam easily - but course work counts for a big %age of the grade - so I flopped... not totally - but didn't do as well as i should.
Anyway - tears streaming down my face now - what a wonderful trip down memory lane... haha.
Still, guess it worked out in the end - just look at me now - 22 - had a mortgage for two years, decent paid job (but boring) and well... doing better than most people i went to school with... so that showed them teachers didn't it.

LOL the system must be a cock up. i just finished my AS levels with E,E,U. which is fairly poo. however half waty throught the year we took the papers from last year as a mock. with no revision and a raging hangover on most mornings i got B,C,E. which is better than E,E,U in anyones books. i blame the system. im now at college doing an advanced GVVQ in IT and computing studies which leads on to a HND. sounds like a laugh........

wisewood
26-09-02, 12:00 PM
oh for the love of TUNA - how many time must i say this...
Tuna live in the sea - TUNA does not.
TUNA does not live in the sky - TUNA lives in Delerium which is, for want of an easier way to explain it, on a different plain of existance - he is all around us - passes through us - but is not in our plain of existance.
When you die - you pass from this plain into TUNA's - and spend the rest of eternity having all of your dreams and fantasies realised in Delerium.

What more could u want from school being a Prefect (perfect) and House captain
wisewood
26-09-02, 02:04 PM
when i was at school i was a prefect too - so funny. ME!!! A PREFECT!!!
They decided that with my year they would let the kids decide in a big voting thing who got to be a prefect - so everyone voted, and my popularity at the time was good among the kids, but obviously not with teachers. So i was voted on...
I had to keep an eye on the area of the school where the younger kids always went for a smoke at breaks and lunch time - which was handy as that way i could go for a smoke and not get interupted... kids stuck head around corner and i just looked over and they went away again... was great.

we never had prefects when i was at skool
i used to just give the teachers hell!
lol
TUNA!
I can remember skool like it was yesterday - even remember my 1st day at "big school"!
I left some 18 years ago (come on CP - wheres your post ref this !!!)
I was there when Maggie Thatcher was running riot with the education system! I've got grades in CSE, O level, 16+ GCSE, CPVE, A level, OND, HND, BTEC, City n Guilds and SVQ!
Cannae remember wot in though. I know I got an A in Art and a C Iin Chemistry - remember building a bomb! amazing wot u can do with bicarb of soda, vinegar, silver foil and an empty 2ltr bottle of coke! :o
I miss the teachers. We had this chemistry teacher who had this thing about there being no salt in snow! and the being no hydrogen in the air! Was from Yorskire so he'd yell when ever anyone said there was dead loud "waddaya mean there salt in snor - there nae salt in snor!" Hed then chuck a board rubber at ya!
lol!
Then there was Dr Till the "chicken man" - used to strut like a chicken - had some skin disorder than made him look 70! he was only 30!
And the most bizarre teacher was this racist technology guy we had Mr Whiting - he told us this rhym about resistor colour codes and their values and Ive never forgotten it! - Black Brown Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Violet Grey White (then silver n gold) - rhym (apologies for this but its weird) - "Black B*****ds rape our young girls but violet gota way!"
Creepy wot u remember -
Apparantly - "A paramesium has 2 contractile vacuoles! " WTF! :?
Y couldnt they teach you anything useful like hoe to balance yer cheque book at the end of the month or what to do when yer car breaks down!
lol

hey ade - I'm from yorkshire - good impression mate :D
as for you little "eeee wen arr were a ladd" - sounds similar to our school.
we had a racist RE teacher... which was hillarious as we studied budhism and all that stuff... lmao. Biology teacher, used to throw chalk, board rubber, and even his stool on occasion.
"A paramesium has 2 contractile vacuoles! "

ERM.... School grades ok here goes
English-Refused entry to exam
Mathematics D
Technology D
French D
Science- Refused entry to exam
Geography D
Drama D
Now this sounds bad and it was as i was put onto a mentoring list as my predicted grades were 5 A*-A's and 3 B's and i was seriously under achieving but i didnt care as school was fun not for education and did i have some fun (and used to make a fortune out of all sorts of stuff  )
But it dosent matter as have now gained many more qualifications and won various awards for film making etc, so have proved everyone from my school wrong (think they were running a book how long til i got sent down :o )

The education system is not a failure. It's the people who fail that are failures. We get education for free for fucks sake! And the potential return from just putting in some time is massive. Aspecially with A Levels. Something for nothing! What more could you want!?
It's sad as to the number of people going to University now (no offence). The government is pushing it and there's loads of ex-polytechnicks and 'micky-mouse courses' that are worth nothing when you finish. And there is a massive shortage in people with skills i.e. electricians, plumbers. Train drivers get paid a shit-load now, and they still keep going on strikes wanting more. And good plumbers can easily make around ?60,000 a year. But that doesn't seem good enough, people want to go to uni and get degrees. A lot of graduates will struggle to get decent jobs once they finished, and i think degrees are only usefull for certain professions where it's the only way in.
There's loads of people that started Modern Aprrenticeships when they were at school, getting paid a laughable ?60, or whatever, a week, and now they earn more than a lot of graduates. Funny that.
Also, ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IS NOT A MEASURE OF ONE'S INTELLIGENCE.
lol m8 - couldnt agree more!
However many employees see a degree as a sign of someone who can "further themselves". A degree apparantly teahes us social skills (getting pished and running up fcuk loads of debt), skills in management or planning (organising the next pub crawl), and commitment (staying in bed till mid day then wandering into lectures 5 mins before the end).
The world revolves around people who have 2 1's and less - those with 1sts go to the next level and end up on some graduate recruitment management training course for 12 months only to get laid off when the company cant afford to pay the over hyped wages the expect to do a job a gimp can do!
Not that I'm bitterr or owt but I went to Sunderland Poly (that then changed to Uni in my final year) and did a degree in special effects specialising in model making. Fuck ing excellent course but the Uni did fcuk all to help us get work - we were sposed to get a year out on a placement but they cancelled it saying that there were insufficient numbers - even those of us that managed to get placed were told go and you forefit the course!
End of year show was excellent but a farce because they gave the wrong dates! By the time they noticed there was less than a week to go and they only managed to contact 1/2 the potential employers - u can imaging the reflection that had on us!
Bitter - maybe...

I would love to go back to school and try again.
I was in all the highest groups when i went to the school in 1998 i was predicted A*'s in every subject and was thought of as one of the best pupils at my old school, then i got in with the wrong crowd.
One of my mates from my old school did loads of work and revision ended up with 9 A*'s and 2 A's.
I did no revision and no work and sat at home half the day while my mum was out at work and got 1B 5C's and 4D's. Fcukin disgraceful really!!!
So School is what you make of it i suppose, I'm now at college but still haven't learned my lesson as i spend half the day at home, just scraped through last years modules by doing 12 assignments a week before the start of this college year and haven't handed an assignment in this year yet!! Sounds stupid that i know that i'm a fuck up. Some people will never learn i suppose but i can't seem to motivate myself
I remember gcses. I got 11 A-C dunno how lol. I'm now doing my second part of A Levels. But school isn't for education. Its about putting chalk in the teachers tea, and selling porn, fags, and drink to all the younger kids  Wish I could go back... I was making so much money in secondary school haha
