Well with billing coming up all sorts of problems are coming up with my car, typical
The majority of them i know what they are and can easily fix them. But not being mechanically minded i usually get my mates to help or do the bigger problems. And with just over a week left, i dont have time to wait on them ****ing about.

Took my car out for a wee run tonight, first time in over a week and when i last put it away there was a slight knocking noise. But its got louder now. It sounds/feels like its coming through the steering and mainly happens when im turning left. But i will do it sometimes or not as lud when in a straight line at traffic lights. It never does it when at 15mph plus.

And diagnosis or what i should start looking?

cv joint or wheel bearing im guessing

check all suspension components..

Lower arms/ball joints, top mounts and hub mounts... bet one is loose.

Bottom ball joint or the wishbone bushing. Take off pretty sharp and see if it knocks once, then brake hard and see if it does it again.

Had my mate look at it tonight, he thinks its the driveshaft. Whats peoples opinions on this?

knackered cv joint then like i said. if you can wobble the driveshaft its funked. having said that even if it doesnt wobble it could still be on the way out lol

when its making the noise while turning left try pushing the clutch in, if it stops making the noise its more than likely the cv joint as burgo has mentioned

Yeh i can wobble the drive shaft.

I just had a thought. I had the car rolling about on 1 litre struts, and hubs when it was getting built. I have a funny feeling the guy that built the car back up may not have changed the hubs back over to the 1600 ones. Could this be whats causing it?

i wouldnt have thought so, as for it to be the hub allowing the movement the bearing would have to be none existent lol. if your driveshaft is wobbling im still gonna go with it being the cv joint. only way to really tell is to take it out and have a look

Which shaft can you wobble? The drivers?

note that there should be some movement of the shaft, but only along it's length, ie between the joints, but any other play is bad.

There is always lateral movement in the shaft(the cv's has a lot of movement), but it shouldn't wobble up/down

You can only move the shaft from side to side, not up or down. Been told its my outer cv joint. So got one arriving tomorow.

Hmm, sounds normal to me.....
The shaft will move side to side, because the cv has a lot of side to side travel.

none of my driveshafts have ever moved unless there fooked

They HAVE to move in and out between the joints to allow the length to change through the movement of the suspension, it's mainly achieved by allowing the shaft itself to slide in and out of the inner joint.

yes i know that, but when the car is sitting still and everything is bolted you shouldn't be able to move the shaft at all

Yes you should, otherwise when you turned a corner, your shaft would pull oot of teh box! lol

There is quite a bit of lateral movement for this reason.

so will you are telling me if you reach under your car you can move your driveshaft??

the answer is no. i know the inner cv joint has movement in and out to allow for suspension movement. ive changed enough on me td cos it kept destroying them
