Not for the Nova but recently bought some new 16x8 Compomotive TH's for the Fabia (me thinks at a bit of a snip too at £320!) but they come without tyres.

My question is if I buy 195/45's and stretch a little to fit, does this have detrimental effect on handling?

I fitted some eagle F1s to some borbet alloys for a customer whilst I was working as a tyre fitter. I cant remember the size of the alloys or the tyre size as it was a while back. I remember saying to the customer - looks really good but not too safe.

Anyways - less then a week later he was back and he said the tyre had popped off the rim and sent him into a curb. I dont know if it really did or if he hit a curb and was trying to get us to pay for his new tyre and rim.

My point is - if you go for it, dont go to mad on the stretching.

Cheers djshaggeh, I've done a bit of research and managed to find a pic of a 195/45 on an 8" wheel. Shouldn't be too bad, just got to be wary of kerbs (I never hit them but just wait till I get these wheels on :tard:).

I think I'll be going for Toyo's but might have a gander down the local tyre place and haggle a deal...

Pinched from another forum...

heres my mates ronal turbo's, they are 7.5 inch wide, and hes running 175/50/15 tyres (bridgestone potenza's)

he had to sign a disclaimer from the ppl that fitted them, not many ppl will fit stretched tyres down here. they dont like it one bit and the disclaimer was to say they were not for road use ect ect.

You aren't the only one mate, maybe it's because we're the same age and are uncool lol

I hear that the Jap drifters originally done it so there was less chance of tearing the tyre from the rim when sideways, seems feasible.
The whole 'euro' 'cos it looks cool thing doesn't get my vote, it looks **** when the width of the tyre won't cover the whole rim and the rim sticks out further, just looks to me like the wrong sized tyres. Wonder why lol
A subtle stretch is cool usually though.

I'm with you RJ.... for practicality & daily driving, its simply a no-brainer IMO.

As a static show, trailer queen VW, maybe it is cool.

Personally I'd sooner have the proper width wheel & tyre, not risk scrubbing & have no isues with putting my car through bends at obscene speeds.

175 on a 7,5 is not a problem, there's no risk involved. just check the tyre pressure more often. i had 175-50-14 on a 7*14 wheel, on my XE nova.

looking great on the ronal's btw.

1 thing to keep in mind.. the lower tyres have stronger walls, a 175-65 tyre is much weaker on the walls.

I like the stretched look but keep it sensible (if possible)!

I saw this at trax last year.. looked great but as said after words with our company tyre fitter Im told that it is unsafe when they are stretched too far.

Seconded.

I'd love to see a stretched tyre corner violently.

its just the risk of a to low tyre pressure, cause when that happens you'll be driving on the wall of the tyre.

I have to say mine doesn't handle all that well compared to the 185/60/14s i used to run.

that saxo is a little extreme but I'm currrently have some Sri steels banded two to 7" and two to 8" and I have 195/45/14 waiting to on them and I've been told it should be fine by at least three tyre fitters

A man pulled up next to a little girl walking home from school and said "If you get in, I'll give you a Lollypop." The girl kept walking. Following along slowly, the man said "Come on and get in the car with me and I'll give you two Lolly pops." She kept her eyes on the footpath and continued on her way. The man said "Get in with me and I'll give you this whole bag of Lollypops!" Finally, the girl turned and said "Look daddy, YOU bought the FORD, YOU drive in it!!!"

ha ha!! love your shoutout marra!! lol
