Is there any difference between the mark 1 & 2 bonnets, apart from the holes for a badge?

yep. its the bit underneath where you put the rod to hold the bonnet up. a mk1 will have a small hole to locate t whereas a mk2 will have a bigger hole with a piece of plastic fitted for the rod to push into..

Will it having a smaller hole and using a mk2 rod make any difference?

In that case mine is a mk2 bonnet with the holes smoothed over and on a mk1.....

think it was just early mk1's that had the small bonnet stay hole...
