does anybody know weather a celica gt4 engine will go into a nova? has anybody tried it before or would it be a first?

I'm sure if you really tried it would be possible with a lot of modifying and arranging.

Something along the drivetrain would have to be fabricated (bell housing for a gearbox perhaps) as I dont think a GT4 engine is a popular swap into a Nova :P

Heard its a straight swap just need a multi point fuel pump, but never done it myself

Really straight swap?

Dont GT4 engines put out around 250 brake or something.

LOL

3SGTE rev3 is 239bhp, and IMO you will struggle to fit that in a Nova. There's barely enough room in the Celicas bay, let alone the Nova one, and the gearbox is huuuuge.

Rev2 (200bhp) may be a bit easier as you could ditch the TMIC and run a FMIC, but again its still essentially the same engine so pretty big. An RC engine would have the chargecooler, so would have the same problems as the rev3 engine. I think the gearbox is different, but still big.

Better off fitting a LET IMO.

[edit] Or, if you have the engine already, sell it to an N/A Celica/MR2/Corolla/etc owner and use the proceeds to buy a LET, with change ;)

you havn't got a chance of shoe horning that in. as jack said the engine and box are huge

^ jack & burgo beat me to it, there not fecking small!!!

Even if there was a remote chance it did fit, a replacement gearbox for one would be worth twice your average nova lol

Amen to that brother!!! lmfao lol

Incidentally, engine aside you also have three or four rather large radiators to contend with. Ditching them for smaller items brings back the overheating problems of the rev2 engine.

It'd fit right in. The only difference it the Rear Gearbox mount, you need to grind the left ot it back about 3 or 4mm for clearence.

This seems to be a common problem while fitting Jap engines to Novas. We had to take 6mm off ours when we fitted the Skyline Powerplant into our 1000cc.

RB26DETT Dod, or can you only run a single turbo due to space issues?

Dod
30-06-08, 12:24 PM
No, you can fit the two if you move the washer bottle 23.56 degrees to the left as you're standing underneith the upside of the bulkhead.

Is this a wind up? lol

Jack

Reminds me of the old thread about having a Skyline engine in a Nova.

Dod

No Andy, its dead serious.

Jack, how the hell does it remind you of that? 2 Completely different things.

A LET engine is just as capable. Quite why you want to use the GT4 lump is quite odd tbh.

If it were to build a 4x4 Nova, then its all good & very feasible.

Aye, take a look at a gt4 engine bay, the inlet/exhaust system is massive compared to say a Let.

Jack

Any excuse for a whore :D

See, simple transplant into a Nova.

30-06-08, 05:53 PM
as already said the gt4 lump is too big better sticking with something similar like a rotory engine out of an rx7 these are tiny and should slot straight in - you can even mod the nova exhaust and manifold to fit:thumb:

you really did ask for these replies!! lol

and it would be rude not to post a pic of a st185 engine aswell :)

Gotta cater for the lesser models I suppose ;)

Adam
30-06-08, 06:01 PM
That st185 engine bay looks powerful
Custom inlet?

burgo
30-06-08, 06:03 PM
lesser my ass jack lol and yes ad its a custom inlet that we've modified further so that 1. it actually fits and 2. it now houses 8 injectors :)

Mike
30-06-08, 06:52 PM
^ and about 2 bar of boost making something silly like 500bhp no doubt :D

Mike
30-06-08, 06:57 PM
Oh, forgot to add, a V-Tec would slot in a treat :thumb:

damn it I need some of those engine dampers to prevent mine from eating its upper mounts

burgo
30-06-08, 08:25 PM
they are ebay specials but they work a treat, the engine doesnt move at all :)

Stuart
30-06-08, 08:40 PM
Just need somewhere to mount them lol

burgo
30-06-08, 08:43 PM

I dont think youve quite grasped the fact of a GT4 engine would struggle to fit in the passenger compartment of a Nova, let alone in the engine bay!

Stuart
30-06-08, 08:55 PM
Burgo, its not so much being lazy, its more the lack of space in the back :p

Novautd, I'd imagine Dod was taking the piss with his post about it ;)

burgo
30-06-08, 08:57 PM
sh1t was this meant to be a serious post?? you are actually wanting to put a celica engine in a nova??

Dod

Burgo = FAIL

Novautd = FAIL

Stuart = PASS

Well done Stu, have a Burger.

novautd
30-06-08, 09:02 PM
yer otherwise i would have posted up in general chat! i didnt buy the engine for the nova but as a spare for my gt4 so was just wondering if it would fit. if it did i would 4x4 it and do a proper job. just thought i would ask on here before i started.

burgo
30-06-08, 09:05 PM
well imo the only way it'll ever fit is if you go the same route as C7LJN. heres his thread http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=90690

yer ive been folowing his build. i just thought that the gt4 engine might be a better option than a let as ive been told that there unreliable

yer ive been folowing his build. i just thought that the gt4 engine might be a better option than a let as ive been told that there unreliableall engines have the potential to be unreliable. its just how they are built and to which state of tune

novautd
30-06-08, 09:20 PM
the only other thing is that i paid alot less for the gt4 engine and running gear than i would for a let and f28 but it looks like i will have to maybe go down that route

Philsutton
01-07-08, 08:45 AM
Oh noes look what I've missed. Whats the point even considering any other engine than a LET when you can get 400bhp quite easy, and its an easy conversion. As lets face it everyone an their mum has a 400bhp LET now.

Only reason to fit something different is for c*ck waving purposes

Dod

Thats a load of Bollox!! Look at the 2.0 Ecotecs, they're always unreliable, tuned or not!! lol

As said, sell for profit and use the proceeds to buy a LET.

Is the engine a rev 2 or 3? If the latter you will have plenty of cash for the Vauxhall engine.
