How hard is it to get some ICE equipment set up in my Nova.....!?!? I have been pondering over the way to go with it for a while and I am in real need for some help.
I am looking for a nice way to improve the sound system within my car without spending tons of money. I used to think that the best thing to do is to stick some 6x9's into the parcel shelf and that would make my music sound 1000 times better. Everyone that I have asked has warned me off getting 6x9's.... for many reasons - the sound is coming from behind you, a sub will interfere because they are using the same airspace, etc. I know that I should upgrade the front speakers in my car but I am at a loss on how to do it.
My present DIY skills are non-existent, and making a homemade parcel shelf would have been a bit of a challenge for me (!). How can I put speakers at the front of my car without doing some serious DIY'ing, like adding speaker pods (Which I wouldn't know how to fit or wire up - now that probably sounds extremely thick), adding some speakers to the kick wells (which I don't think that I could even attmpt to build). What can I do apart from put some speakers onto the parcel shelf??
I have currently got some 4" 20WRMS pioneer speakers in the dash, and thats it. My stereo is outputting 4x35w.......
If getting 6x9's isn't too much of a bad way to go then is it worth getting a decent set or just plumbing for a cheapo set?

Please help, I think that I need some......

Go for some Sony Xplod 6x9s in my opinion. I put these in my parcel shelf on their own before changing anything else and the difference in sound for ?40 was very good. You can then include them in a bigger set up later. A great temporary way of getting better range and loudness of sound. Some folks don't like Sony so you could get something equivalent by someone else, you don't really need to spend any more than ?50 though.

My next step was to purchase 100 watt 4" replacements for the front. They were SPLX, dead cheap at ?13 and again made a difference, mounted in the standard mk2 dash positions (I had to cut away some of the cardboard stuff to fit them in).

Just over ?50 and much better sound before I added a new headunit, amp and 12" sub. I reckon that's the easiest and cheapest way to improve your sound system.

Cheers for the help lads. I think that I will just get a parcel shelf and some 6x9's to stick in it for the time being.

Thanks for the offer mike, but at ?40 I think that I will buy some new. BTW You haven't got any speaker pods for the front have you?
