I've been told that you need to change the steering rack is this true, someone please help!

everything possible,
but its more hassle than its worth.
honestly it is.
im jus think of the lay out of the 2 cars inside and i dought ya can do it without welding in new brackets etc.
fix mk2 look smilar

Bin that idea and:

1 - scrap the dash, fit a carbon-fibre 'shelf' and Auto meter gauges.

or

2 - make a custom unique dash using mdf and fibreglass.
