Im trying to fit a boot release system onto my mk 1.

I am having great trouble following the wireing diagrams on the cruise website.

Is the soleoide always on to keep it shut or does it only come on to unlock the boot. If this is the case why use a 12v relay to throw a 12 volt switch??

Any help or tutorials will be greatly appreceiated.

Thanx in Advance

Hello M8. I`ve done this mod to mine and haven`t used a relay at all. Fit a push switch to the dash with one side live after ignition and the other wire trailing to the back of the car, into the tailgate. Now using the original rod that came off the lock, attach this to the solenoid and screw the solenoid down securely. The lock mechanism is sprung, so all you have to do to open the boot is to depress the switch quickly, you`ll hear a click at the back and your boot should open! Take the earth from the thick brown wire. It`s advisable to fit a new bootlifter at the same time as they tend to lose pressure over time.
