After having one of those useless disasterous days with so much planned and nothing getting done...

I thought i'd do my sump gasket and replace the exhaust manifold gasket! All started well, then the sump had been sealed with silicone

Some gentle persuassion later... :thumb: it moved but it's now restricted by the oil pick up pipe.

What needs to be done to remove the sump completely? I need to cleaned the surface upbefore refitting.

Cheers once again lol

Nothing, it should just drop off.

Deffo removed all the bolts?
including the ones up the back of the gearbox/flywheel cover?

er... lol flywheel cover whats one of those?!? I'm missing it :( it gets better and better!

Apparently the Cav haynes manual states that the oil pick up pipe needs to be removed to get the sump fully off?!?

Cheers ad, i seem to be a drain on your knowledge today :)

How is that possible, the pickup pipe is INSIDE the sump? lol

Didnt see it was a xe sorry, in that case it dont have a flywheel cover iirc.

Is the sump loose?

Hmmm, wiggle it.
It has to come off, as you cant remove the pickup with the sump on

the alloy sump should come off if all the bolts are removed so double check, then when thats off you have to remove the oil pickup pipe before the baffle plate will come off, standard it will have 2 cork gaskets to sanwich the baffle plate but there ****e, wat u want is a one piece rubber one thats listed i think for the 2.0 8v motor, they dont leak and are alot better than messing with 2 cork gaskets

all the bolts are out, its literally hanging ont he pick up pie and what ever way you twist it or tilt it, it wont shift :(

i've only got one sump gasket  do i need more, i'm stumped

Is the metal baffle plate stuck on the sump still? It should be seperate. Theres 2 cork gaskets, 1 either side of the baffle plate.

^^^ second that, you have 2 small bolts on the pick up pipe to take off also...

isn't that a x20xev one?

leave the pick up pipe alone, doesnt need to be touched. the blaffles ar stuck to the sump. you need to get something in between the sump face and the metal baffle, pry it off and the sump will then fall off.

the sump will come off easy if all bolts are removed but wenever ive done mine i like to take the baffle plate off aswell, thus having to remove the pickup pipe to get the baffle plate off so i can give everything a good clean before re fitting
