Copyed over from mig... I think we might need to take a road trip!

You know how the rumours go about a load of brand new nova shells stored somewhere in Spain?
well, Ive found maybe 20 novas, most with tidy rust-free bodyshells. The ones I looked at were seriously mint......

......In my local scrappy!
check how clean the rear arches are! :p

Tht way Novas are being priced at the minute, I'd hire a 44ft Artic!!

The only problem is there's no doubt that there'll be no Tax book and they're all LHD. Easy to convert but what about re-registering?

Andy_L

How could you break any of those??

If they are as good as they look, drop an engine in and away you go.

I'd just weld my VIN/chassis numbers straight into it. Who cares if you had no intention to sell it on, only keep it?

Its only ringing if you are doing it to cover up/sell on IMO.

Dod
19-06-08, 11:54 AM
Yeah but what if you are intending to sell?

I've been thinking about this for years now, Novas/Corsa A's are worth an absolute fortune over here at the minute, seem to average €3000 for a standard and as much as €7000 for a finished Road car.

draper

i wouldnt be selling if i had a minty mint nova like those, or they could be used as track cars since you dont need a registration

Even then it'd be OK. If I showed you around my 'mint' Nova & explained it had been ringed, with my old VIN numbers welded on it in order to get the minter on UK roads. I think you would agree thats a small price to pay for a mint Nova shell.

It is ofcourse hypothetical anyway.

You'd need a RHD loom amongst other parts to convert to RHD anyway. Dash, steering rack, column, bulkhead parts & brake servo/pedals etc to name a few more.

Jack
19-06-08, 12:36 PM
Would be ideal for track cars what with the brake setup being on the left hand side.

Instead of "El za pisa va va voom Opel Corsa A Blaa blaa blaa frog"

I've been thinking about buying as many dead and/or rotten Novas with ID as posible and transferring everything onto a minty LHD shell but its the legality of it all thats going to get me. A bill of sale can be presented but whos to say some french frog hasnt just stolen this and given me a Menu for the local takeaway on headed paper?

How do I prove the LHD isnt stolen?

Welsh Dan
19-06-08, 01:20 PM

Dod
19-06-08, 01:39 PM

I WISH! lol

ck
19-06-08, 02:11 PM
Very true. but would it really matter. to do it legaly the car would go onto a Q plate as the shell has been previously registered/used. the only legitimate way to keep the original identity is to re-shell with a brand new un-used shell and you have to prove its new with the purchase receipt.

but would you care if it was on a Q plate if it was truely mint?

Dod
19-06-08, 02:13 PM
Well we dont have Q plates over here so what happens is you just use the number of the donor car you've made the new one from. But in this instance, I dont have a clue.

craig green
19-06-08, 02:13 PM
but would you care if it was on a Q plate if it was truely mint?

Hence my method of retaining my existing reg plate & simply burying my GSi in the back garden as worm food.

If importing it through the normal channels like a grey import, wouldnt it be allocated an age related plate?

I'm no dodgy geezer, but if I were reshelling my GSi with one of these shells, I certainly would have no inclination to sell it & that makes the legitimacy of the VIN no my perogative.

Its all hear say.

If any of these French delights make it over here & onto this forum I'll gladly lick the rim of said cars steering wheel! lol

ideal, the ferry for france is just in town lol. ill walk over n drive one back, if only it was closer lmfao. i would defo be up for a mass PNG scrappy run to france lol

as each shell will have its own legitimate vin number you could simply leave that on there and register that vin number. and YES it will get an age related plate :D

As for transferring the VIN number to your car, im pretty sure it would be the same as clocking, its only illegal if you don't tell the new owner when/if you come to sell it.

Would be worth going over there if you wanted a whole car but as for wings/ doors etc I couldn't be ****d with all the hassle. Wings are easy enough to get hold of as are door skins.

You don't need one. I didn't when I drove to Germany, went across on the tunnel. I think you can use your driving license if they do want ID....

[edit] Just had a look and its recommended you take one with you though. Poo.

I've been looking into this for a few years now, not as seriously as I have been recently but it seems that most of the warmer Europien Countries ase in the same boat. France and Spain are the 2 I've concentrated on most.

Think og a Nova, the first thing to go is always the body work. Then Sods Law, the Running gear. Places like America where cars seldome rust have scrap yards full of cars with maybe slight damage or some form of mechanical failure which is usually a slight very easily fixed problem. Europien Countries are the same.

I've been thinking about this particular Scrasp yard and I'm going to pass on it. First off, the cars are in a field and with the warm weather and the damp ground (and it will be damp due to the river next to it) would cause moisture to rise and catch in the Novas underside. Its probably nothing at al to worry about but if you're going to the effort of doing this on as big a scale as I'd like to, it may be a risk and IMO, its not worth it. But I am still looking and I do intend to ship some this year!! Watch this space.....

Ringing a car is illegal under no circumstances and if you were to be stopped by the police they would take the car off and have it checked if they suspected anything untoward (like a plate over the vin number). re registring is easy enough to not need to do it.

Q plates dont get issued anymore they issue an age related plate, basically check date stamps etc on the car and the foreign paperwork abd issue a plate accordingly.

As others have said theres loads of very clean corsa a's all over europe, i have 2 in my street out here and yeah there are loads of scrap yards with a few in, the scrap yards dont work like back home they just sit on them and wait. Should see some of the polish yards!!!

Dod
20-06-08, 02:52 PM
Bingo!! But the Polish are so miserable that they probably wouldn't sell them.
