Ok i bought some GSi clocks off ebay for £20 posted the guy said their was nothing wrong with them...

I have a set of Vauxhall Nova 6 dial clocks.
Working fine all gauges work and in very good condition.
Showing 32630 miles
Bought of ebay for my Nova but ended up scraping it due to alot of work that needed doing.

So i un wraps them this morning and because i hadn't bought or handled any clocks before of my own i didn't notice anything wrong with them.

So anyway 1st p1ss take was the fact i need 1 of them torque screw driver things to undo it to wind the clocks to being the correct milage.

So i went out to BMS and got a set for £6.99 and did the job.

So i heads off to my car to start on it and start undoing the screws etc.. when i realise the torque drivers i just bought are too big to fit between the dash and the windscreen so i got more p1ssed off because i had to go out again and buy more.

So i went out bought another set which would fit between my windscreen and dash for £8.99.

So i gets home back to my car and starts undoing the screws again took out the old clocks then start to notice something.

Why do my clocks that are in have clips around them to hold them into the dash yet my GSi ones don't which made me more p1ssed off still.

But i thought oh balls to it i'll bond them in or something.

So i start to plug in the main block on the back and guess what! it's to fricking big for the GSi slot.!

FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!113W13124125`¬!!!$£%!!!!!!!!!!!3 51!!!!!!!!

So now my blood is boiling and i'm not in a good mood at all.

What the hell is with the bigger plug!!!!

Those are GTE dials, not GSi ones. I'll wager there's no plastic strip along the base of the clear plastic dial fascia either?

Mk2 has a 14 pin plug, Mk1 has a 12 pin plug - you'll need to splice on a Mk1 dial plug.

As for the torx screws, you should have checked those first :p

Can't i solder on my plug off my original non rev clocks?

And is their a diagram?

Thanks..

Take your time lad.

As for the Clocks, you got a pic of them? You should be able to wire them with little trouble but the facisa is different so they wont fit right.

So, in a word, FAIL!!!

But thats not funny.....

back on ebay we go :D then get some mk2 GSI ones... Leave bad feedback to the guy who sent them as they are not gsi jobbies, Or you could send them back to him asking for a refund.

He put in the title.
''vauxhall nova 6 dial clocks GTE / GSI / SR''

So what is my argument to him.

Do i say you advertised them as GSi clocks when they arn't GSi but are GTE.

Yes i paid through paypal.

So if he doesn't kindly refund me i will have to open up a dispute.

Hmm, technically he's used the title as a keyword hook, which ebay don't like, but still.

Unless he explicitly said they were GTE dials, I don't think you have any come back. If you regard the title to mean they will fit GTE, GSi, SR models etc then yes, they will albeit with modification.

Assuming he posted a pic of the dials on the auction, he could argue that you could see from the image whether they were for a Mk1 or Mk2.

What was the main text of the advert? (no ebay at work)

[edit] I hereby request the :witch: smiley changed to ":dod:" lol

Or find a Mk1 Nova at a scrapyard and chop the dial plug off it.

Ebay/seller will just say you should have checked first.

Incidentally, the differences are the plug (Mk1: 12 pin; Mk2: 14pin), screw mounts (Mk2 has top and side tangs for screws, Mk1 does not), and the plastic edge at the base of the clear fascia (Mk2 has one, Mk1 does not). The dial faces were different on earlier Mk1s, but I've seen the same faces used on both so thats not gospel.

Has anyone actually mated a mk1 plug to a mk2 car or the other way round? I tried fitting a mk1 plug to my K reg Nova and found that there were 2 black wires on one, 1 black on the other etc, nothing really matches up so is it actually possible without a wiring diagram?

Ernie
18-06-08, 03:56 PM
It can be done without and soildering.
If you get a mrk1 plug with wire's still on then change the wires over 1 at a time it will work as ive done this but the other way round(mrk2 clocks into mrk1)Just change them over 1 colour at a time.
If you hold the plug the little conections can be pushed out by bending the metal buts down a bit then bend them back up before fitting in to the new plug very easy to do.

Use a Haynes. Or, look in the articles section, I have a wiring diagram on my dash swap guide.

For lazy people:

My dials are bullet connector-ed on, makes it much easier when I eventually get round to putting my Astra dials in :D

open up a dispute through paypal mate, as he listed that in the title it is therefor his own fault. a good try at being missleading becuase it worked. for instance if ebay had known that gte clocks wont fit a gsi then due to what was listed in the titl the auction would have quilified for ebay to remove it. the seller did not clearly state what he was selling so its his own fault. open up a dispute i'd say..

Novalad, the guy you bought the clocks from lives in my town.
We are all honest upstanding citizens lol I don't see how you would win a dispute TBH. Seem to be listed fairly, you need to take more time instead of either rushing into purchases or not researching first

They will rattle around like a biatch because you wont be able to fix them down. Get the proper clocks for the job, and remember to ask wether there's a difference on here next time if your not sure about something. Thats what the forum's here for lol
