My battery and warning light came on in my nova tonight. The 2 lights get fainter when you press the accelerator. Checked the altenator and belt and all seems to be working fine. Car drives fine and everythings working fine. What could be causing this?

Diodes on the way out?
happened to my Bro's alternator on his Cav. Did the same thing now and again and although she was fine for a while it eventually got worse and needed a new alternator.

if the alternator is charging ok check the earth points
The alternator needs a live feed from the battery to excite it and start charging at low revs. This live feed has a light bulb in-line to firstly create a slight load, and secondly act as a charge indicator. When the alternator starts charging, it generates a higher voltage than the feed coming from the battery and the light goes out as the current stops flowing through it. So as said above, the alternator is not creating a voltage/current higher than that already in the battery.

Will be the brushes in the regulator of teh alt (double check as it 99% wont be charging)
