Default my new project.... erm its a ford

well bougth a mk3 xr2i from tarlton friday night, i knew it needed some serious welding but it didnt bother me as im never one to shy from a project, its a 1990 1.6cvh, think there just a tad over 100bhp as standard but i have absoloutly no intensions of leaving the any of it standard other than the rims and external look of the car, got it for got it for ?90...BARGAIN

still not got my camera back from my mates yet so.... heres what i have done so far

well i stripped it down last night and today.... to well bare, still got tank to take out like, my god boxing day is going to be a weldathon, two new sills drivers side half pan, making my own repair panel for one of the rear struts, going to seam weld the whole shell, after xmas will take the engine out and weld all the engine bay up (seam weld) luckily doesnt need any repairs under there, goign to take wings off and just check the chassis legs are good if there not will cut the rust out and make new sections and weld them in, i will also be ordering a new passengers side front wing as there a bloody great big hole in the bottom of it,

could do with a repair panel for the rear arch but becasue it has the kit on im going to remove the arch and try and make my own repair panel for it.

when taking the spare wheel out and spare wheel tray i was shocked to find a good boot floor, as my plan is to build it into a bit of a rally slag will be mouting my home made fuel tank(cell) in the boot(need some one who can tig ali now though), just hoping when i drop the tank out i find it as good as the boot, saying that it would be no worrys if it didnt has may end up cutting the middle out where it sticks up to mount the rear seats to any how and slope it down with one piece of plat metal, if for nothing more than to make it look tidyer.

i have been offered a cage from a escort of the same shape from an xr3i challenge car? am i right in thinking the front will fit because its so cheap if it will fit will just modify the back end to fit, might just have to trial fit the front end?

any wayback to work

82bhp You'll have to chop that cage a fair bit i would of thought. Also when under the car have a good poke on the chassis rails, near wheel the rear beam mounts are, in the inner rear wheel arches, brake pipe mounts, hang on its a fiesta anywhere theres metal Then up front in the inner front arches the rails run upto the front where brake pipe mounts they like to split from each other there, theres about 3 layers of metal there, which just seperate.

well ive been at workin birkdale for the last couple of days so havnt really been able to do much, but on the plus side all my panels have now arrived i have now made the new floor and screwed it in place with self tappers ready for welding it up on boxing day, tomorrow i plan to just look for jobs as until i have welded it up im a bit stuck as to what i can really do to a holly shell, it has been under the attention of the grinder though i removed tyhe rear valance, for two reasons to save weight and because there were some bloody big holes in it and to save a bit of weight, i have also removed the inner skin from the boot lid in my hope to make my lack of power up in saving weight, i am aiming to have no more than about 130horses which to behonest isnt impossible at all, and will also keep it fairly reliable, i have now got a pair of buckets which i will have to go see lizzy about once they have moved cos they need a good retrim! also have the cage which looks like it will go in with a little bit of modification.
i havnt been able to upload any photos yet though i am still taking them regulary!

stu thats a yay to that cage mate
give me a buzz 0770674798
