Balley, as its nearly been 6 months, hows your drivers side engine mount holding up, standing the test of time ok? also was there any increase in cabin noise as a result or is it better?

I ask as Ive just fitted 2 defender square mounts to my drivers side, one that fits thru the cambelt to the usual mount point and the other I used the spare mounting points for the PAS pump bracket to carry the other mount, it looks like an overwelded frankenstein creation, but it must be 10 times better than the last one, Ill post a photo this weekend, then another at some other point once ive 'finessed' the mount some more

Well as the front arch is now done I have started work on the O/S/R arch.

I cut the lower part of the skin out to have a look in the chassis leg and to remove a couple of small holes..

I noticed the spring cup which appeared okay on the outside was in fact shaagged!

So I then cut it out.

And made this to replace it

Again two mm plate with 3mm spring cup which matches the N/S/R arch a treat

    Welded it in..

Photos don't do it justice. I have welded it all the way round inside the leg, Its very strong and welded well tbf..

I then spent a while removing the rest of the crusty bit and painted (filled) the inside of the leg with 80% waste oil and 20% wax oil and ofcourse I painted with the high zinc primer first

I was told to do this by a chap I know who runs a 1991 Defender, he has owned it from new and has done this yearly. its covered 112k and has never been welded... ****ing amazing if you ask me.

That is it though. I Set fire to my leg welding and then it became very windy and cold so I called it a day...

After looking at the rear beam I have decided to gloss paint it and add some new brake pipes, I can see this build going mental

that spring cup looks mega, good work dude that'll get dug up by time team in 500 years and confuse the f*ck out of them have some rep

why waste oil though? it's full or corrosive sh*t, i'd have bought a can of el-cheapo Witham mineral or someting. The old 15w40 eurofleet is only about 8 quid a gallon

Good work mate. The first tine I knew about people filling up cavities etc with waste oil was when I ground straight through some rot on a sill on an old triumph at work and got covered in about a gallon of the stuff
