"The premium has increased, to £549"

£150 more for a change of job

I explained i wasn't going to pay that, and had had cheaper quotes elsewhere

Sounds about right for your age TBH.
The lowest group on a 1.4 astra is 6 iirc.
    I paid £1100 on my first year, on a grp3 1.2i

They were probably just nobbing it on then, the only occupations which endure a decent hike in premium are things like journalism, motor trade and military/civil service (on a base).
