    Default Insurance Time

Yes its that time of the year again. Insurance is up on the Celica so wondered what bargains are to be had this year.

Current insurance (the one thats about to expire) is as follows:

24, 7years NCB, SP50 (3pts/?60), SP30 (3pts/?60) A grade postcode, car on driveway, SD&P w/ commuting, fully comp, protected NCB, 10k/year, ?450 excess, sister on policy as 2nd driver, mods (alloys, stereo, DV). That came to ?500 last year with Admiral.

Obviously I'm now 25, 8 years NCB, and my SP30 has gone so I've only got 3 points for the SP50. Renewal came through from Admiral, ?568 for the same level of cover. WTF! Screw that!

This year, I wanted a few changes - excess down to ?250 (?100 compulsory, ?150 voluntary) and business usage (this is a requirement if you work for the MOD). I've also now got a couple more mods to add to the policy (HID lights, exhaust, air filter).

First port of call was to hit the phones and try some of the bigger general insurance companies. Bearing in mind its modified, so internet based quotes are off the menu. Esure said no; Quinn Direct said ?800 without business use; churchill said ?450 until I told them it was modified and the price went up to ?750!! Direct Line just said they couldn't beat my renewal and didn't quote a price. Lol.

Elephant came trumps, ?440 for business use and ?250 excess, all mods covered. Better.

Next was the specialist insurers. Sky, one of the official club insurers for CCUK, came first; after some very quick fire questioning from the guy on the phone (methinks it had gone their closing time ) he came back with ?420, business use and ?250 excess, AND like for like replacement on mods. Result!

Tried calling Flux to see if they could better that, after going through their operator, nobody wanted to answer the phone. So tried again today, and the best they could come up with was "about ?600"!

    Sky FTW :D

[edit] May be worth inquiring about a PNG club discount? CCUK members rate the customer service better than Flux...
