Tailgate question

I went to look for a second hand tailgate in the local scrappy today so i could start to smooth the arse end on my car and found this on a mashed up GTE:

I think it had a bit of work done to it before it was crashed, theres no grab handle just a lock:

there was no keys in it which makes the lock kinda redundant but has anyone done this to there tailgate and know where i can get a new lock with keys that will fit in there or shall i just flush the lock hole along with the number plate recess. It also looks as if it never had a grab handle before?..
personally i think it would look better with a flushed recess and keep the lock, also saves fartin about with solenoids.

i think the tailgate is off a early nova. not sure though. they came with no viynel on the back.

yep an early on before E-palt had no handle!THE GTE logo looks like it's off an Astra GTE!

year flush the lock to looks shit with just that left in!then put it a remote by the driver's seat!A few people use ones from XR2/XR2i im told
