I'd say definately go down the road of a removable sub box in your wheel well.... that way if your going on a long journey you can pop a spare in the boot.
You can also work out the volume and build the sub sitting proud of a false floor with the correct volume for the box.
One idea would be to either make or buy a spare wheel bracket and mount it in your boot and actually make a feature of the spare.

Would be a good idea to weld a hub to a bracket and use a locking wheel nut and some regular wheel nuts to secure it on.
