insurance query

this may sound like a daft question but do i have to own a car before i can insure it??the thing is mate of mine has a perfect Si sittin on his drive n he said i can use it over the winter. my nova needs some repairs but im workin 5 nights a week n cant get round to it yet.im sellin it after the crimbo so i may just stroe it tell them.all help appreciated!!

Most insurance companies will only insure the registered keeper, stops people fronting.

You might be able to temporarily insure the car... I've had a couple of courtesy cars and suchlike covered by my existing policy before, but not sure if this only applies to a trader's loaned cars.
