Default Best Contacts for Bottom End Uprated Parts

I am looking to get some quotes and get an idea of how much rebulding a 1400 block will cost.

My mate has kindly offered me an old 1400 block and I am planning to strip it down, get it rebored to make it nearer 1500cc, and build it back up to make it near bomb proof!

So ARP rod bolts are a must, and was looking at the idea of more performance biased pistons (??? may prevent this though!).

Does anyone have any recommended websites to look at, companies to get in touch with, email addresses?

Also can anyone recommend any literature on rebuilding bottom ends?

    Cheers

    Tom

Just use a 1600 bottom end, its less hassle.

If you're going to be spending that sort of cash then you may aswell start with a 1600 bottom end as stated above.

why do people insist on websites and email addresses for engine builders . they are old fashioned companies who rarely do websites etc

anyhooooo for engine building jsut find your local engineering firm that does that kind of thing and go to them. tell them what you think you want, they will agree/disagree etc and away you go.

But as a rule of thumb a rebuild bottom end with the following done is about ?800... less if you assemble it though.
    Rebore
+0.5mm pistsons with the valve pockets notched
Deseasmed and shot peened std rods (you can deseam them yourself to save cash)
    ARP rod bolts
Crank measure + polish/grind (which ever is nessecary)
    main and big end bearings
    decked block.

Thanks for the info, I am looking to strip and rebuild myself to save a few quid and to learn how to do it.

I'm going for a 1400 block so I can use my blydenstein head, but I've thought that I will be alter the compression ratio anyway with different pistons won't I?

a rebore will increse the compression ratio by its very nature.

you might want to check the size of the valves in your current head as it might turn out better to sell it on and buy a 1.4/1.6mpi head....

measure your CR... there is a guide how to in my 1.4 engine guide in my sig link

If it was me, i'd just get a good 1600 block, fit new mains/big end shells and ARP bolts.
    And use that.

Put the rebuild cost towards your next engine/more mods for this one.

ah right thats just ansewred some of my questions aswell. on me way home just then i was thinking about rebuilding my 1400 engine and doing work on the bottom end aswell, but looks like i might just stick a 1600 bottom end on it instead as i dont want to spend loads on it as it will be a side project as this engine is being swapped for somthing different again.
