For the tie bar mounts? What's happened to yours? The box section is pretty solid, it's completely over engineered and weighs a ton!

We rewelded the captivenuts in for the horizontal bolts.

Will the small triangle strengthening pieces you have at either end of the crossmember foul the rad at all? I was going to do similar but until I buy a rad for mine I couldn't check.

I used 50x50 3mm wall and it still crushed when tightening the vertical bolts... Had to retro fit some crush tubes.

Interesting to know Iain, thanks for the heads up. I had a look at your build and saw how you resolved the issue, doesn't look too big a job, I'll order up some steel tube...

I'm still alive... Still got three, need to sell the blue one still. Looks like I'm going to have to trailer to my house and repair it and mot it. Fun!
MX5 is a good weapon, not sure which I prefer to drive, been ages since I drove a nova. MX handles really well and goes like stink now! Need to build a forged engine at some point, but for the time being I'm just going to fit another engine as mine is smoking on overrun and can't work out if it's control rings or stem seals.

Based on Iain's advice, I've just ordered some 16mm OD steel tube with a 3mm wall thickness. Should stop the crossmember compressing.
