    Default Amp & Sub Question

Got my bro a 350watt rms sub (1300watt peak). It his birthday so I wanna buy him an amp. I've seen an amp for sale which is 350watt max output. Would this be suitable to use with the sub?

It's been a very long time since I've shopped around for ICE so all the info I used to know has gone out the window

It'll be fine with those figures, assuming they're reliable in both cases.

Just don't be tempted to whack the gain up or use 'bass boost' settings to make up for the lack of amp power, as that will sound poo and could damage the sub. But thats generally if the power ratings are closer (e.g. a 300W rms amp on a 400W rms sub)

[edit] I mean, it'll work, but won't be an ideal combination and would probably be fairly quiet

The sub ratings are merely 'the max it will cope with' not necessarily what will sound good

I found a 'good' way to get a match was to get an amp that can peak the RMS of the sub. So yes what you have found should work.
You may find better value/more choice of amps by looking at 2 channel's that can be bridged

The amp I found was bridgable and 2 ohm safe with MOSFET. His hu handles all the sub levels etc. The amp has a low cut filter etc just don't want it to sound too low or under powered. My amp is 500w peak iirc 200w rms. My sub is 350rms and sounds perfect so I want the same sort of outcome.
