    is it from date of conviction or offence?

    of conviction. because untilyou are convicted you dont actually have any points do you

    Nope, from the date of the offence unless its DR10, DR20, DR30, DR80, CD40, CD50, CD60, CD70, DD40, DD60, DD80 or if a disqualification is involved.

    So for example, for if you were nicked speeding and given an SP30 on the 10th June, your points would run from the 10th June. If you got nicked on the 5th May for a DR10 but not convicted of the offence until 5th June, your points would run from the 5th June.

    I've seen one or two insurance companies that say "from date of conviction" (note they say "have you ever been convicted of a motoring offence", rather than "do you have points") though, as this can wangle them a longer duration for upping the premium

    well i got pulled in Dec '05 and convicted in June '06! I had to go to court as I was 1 mph under twice the limit. Also was within the first two years of driving so i think myself lucky for keeping my license.
