well I reckon back to back test ie same car differnent carbs would settle it, thats why I asked the question. I havent seen any of the claims backed up thats all.

In some ford mag I picked up a while ago they did a back to back test between 40's and the standard twin choke which made quite interesting reading.

If I can find the article I'll post up the results!

obv the 40's were up on the std carb. I guess its kinda simmilar to the 1.3SR and sport.

id imagine on a reasonable setup the twin choke would offer a more "driveable" experience, but the power wouild be in the T40's favour (obv)

i've been kicking this thought about, i all ready had T40's and manifold to go on, but i kept hearing about bike carbs. So i thought i'd go for them and sell the T40's. and now im keeping T40's this is because i belive they will work better on an 8v, delivering more torque though out the rev range, where as R1 carbs i recon would be better for a revvy engine and peak power high up. i mean think, the bike they came off, the had to deliver fuel to 14k rpm engine. Also if vauxhall used T40's then there good enough for me (not that they have R1 carbs back then) But all in all theres not a lot of differant between the two. Search on here and mig for more info.

I've just found it. on the 2 litre pinto it picked up a total of 28 BHP with 45's compared to DGAV which was on there as st. it also picked up 16ft/lb torque too. as you would expect the biggest gains were above 4000 rpm.

nova_pilot I reckon you have that the wrong way around, you need to look down the barrel of a 40 and a R1 carb to see how they work differently.

This Reminds me of the Big Block vs Small Block, debate or Mk1 vs Mk2 dash etc lmao...

Choose which ever you like, i agree with LLTN the engines would need to be near identical for a "proper" reasults
