Electrics being very strange?

I was on the motorway too work this morning doing around 70ish listening too some music and then my stereo kept flashing on and off so i though hhmm thats a bit strange, then i had no dash lights and the petrol and temp gauge went too zero but the car was still running alright, then i went too put my indicator on and the car started jerking as if it was stalling and then all of a sudden everything came back on again!?!has this happened too anyone else before and what the hell could it be?
