Seeing as we had a thread hijack in mechanical, I thought I'd move the discussion over here, so what does everyone think is the best engine ever?

hillman imp! what about chevy small blocks?
I love the sound the chevy small block v8's make.
best design for ease of power i would say twin rotary engines. However, as for reliability there not that good. Esp after they've done about 100k they just coke up and die!

Merlin. end of
won the war, sounds horny as feck and spot on modern F1 style technology used back then to make them.... ok tis huge and heavy but meh its got a slutty noise that will make a grown man lose his load
I was going to say Cosworth YB for the sheer amount of things you can do with it; but after seeing a 1991 Bugatti EB110 at Goodwood last year, I've changed my mind! The 3.5 litre, V12, 5 valves per cylinder, quad turbo engine this has is a work of art. It also has gear driven cams and produces 1bhp per 6.36cc. Its not the most powerful engine ever but for its prettiness, quality of engineering and exclusiveness it must rate surely?
