    Default Fuel gauge HELP

I've a nova rally car over made a custom dash and I'm having bother with a fuel gauge I've tried a cheap one it reads ok until you hit a bump and I've tried a VDO one it's reading full when the tank is empty I know it's because of the ohms is there any suggestions to make something out of a original dash or a aftermarket one that will work ? Thanks for any help in advance
