Default Oil temp gauge on Nova E16SE - issue

    Hi all!
I'm from Italy and I read your forum for a long time. It helped me a lot in my Nova restoration. I have a Nova Gsi (in Italy is called Opel Corsa A Gsi) with E16SE engine. I have an oil temp gauge and I tried to install it. I took the signal from the OEM oil temp sender, that is in the rear of the block. It has 2 wires (negative and signal). I connected the gauge, and it works perfectly with the oem sender. BUT... when I start the engine, the fault light turns on. If i disconnect the power or the signal of the gauge, the fault light turns off. Then, I think the ecu read a different resistance form the sender because the inner resistance of the gauge, and turns on the fault.
Anyone can help me? I serched a lot in the forum, but I've not find any solution.
I apologize if my English is not good, I hope is understandable.
    Thanks to all
    Regards

Where is the sender located? Is it the one that is at the same level as the sump on the Cam belt side?

As far as I knew there wasn't an Oil temp, at least on the UK cars. There is however an Oil pressure sensor.

    Thanks for your answer.
I replied this morning with a photo of the sensor but my message doesn't appear yet. The oil pressure sensor is in the right side, near the cam belt.
Anyway, this afternoon i tried to disconnect the oem sensor wires and connect them to the sensor included with the gauge. The fault doesn't appear. Then I used the oem sensor to connect the oil temp gauge and IT WORKS!
Tomorrow I'll try to use the car in any condition to check if the temp is always correct. Finger crossed!

    Update.
I used the car all the morning, and all works perfectly. No fault. Maybe the temp showed is not perfectly real, because the oem sensor is not designed to works with aftermarket gauge, I think there are different resistance. It shows a oil temp at 110 celsius. I think is 10-15 celsius higher than real temp. I'll try to put a resistance on the signal cable to correct the temp.

Leave the original one alone and just get an oil filter sandwich plate and separate sender, easy to do and will give you less problems in the long run.

    Thanks a lot!
Do you know the specification for this sandwich plate to mount on E16SE engine? I don't know which size is right. M20 x 1.5mm, M18 x 1.5mm & ¾ UNF16. Can you help me?

Thanks for the tip, I didn't know this plate!
