    Thumbs up nova 1.2 brakes

    Hi,

I owned a nova gsi 15 years ago, and have recently bought a 1.2 antibes as my mum had one when I was a youngster.

Looking to refurb the rear brakes as one of my first jobs, but struggling to establish if parts I am looking at are the correct ones.

    EBay lists a 1.2 and 1.2s

Are the rear brakes on 1.2's the same for 1986?

Or will any upgrade parts (sr/gte etc..) bolt on?

Undecided whether I am keeping this long-term and putting another engine in it and just want it mot ready for now.

    Thanks

Rear brakes are pretty much model and engine side independent, but I think earlier ones have backplate and adjustment differences so you'll need replacement parts to suit your age. There are no real upgrade mods for drums without replacing them with discs.

    Thanks for the quik reply.

Does anyone know what year the difference would apply to? Mine is an 86 on a D-plate.

Or even from what chassis number the change occurred.

    Cheers!

Got a photo of your calipers? I think there were 2 types (Delco and ATE?)

If you are renewing most items it is worth considering a Cavalier/Astra 256mm ATE caliper as a factory-fit upgrade.

Not got a pic at the moment, but i am pretty sure mine has the delco set up.

Had a good read last night, and the later disc seems to be 2mm thicker to go with the ate caliper

Would love the 256mm set up, but i think i would need a gte servo/master cylinder and 15's

With a 1.2 i cant see me getting up to any great speeds

Would be fine without the servo upgrade, but yes you'd want at least 14s.

Thanks, will keep that in mind. A set of the sr/gte alloys would suit it nicely i think
