Best method of removing needle off speedo

I need to remove the needle off the speedo! What is the best way of doing it. It looks fragile.

Very carefully on the central part, increase the pull with a finger on each side, eventually it will just come free.

It's the standard speedo want to fit the correct milage into a set of 6 dials. Cheers.
