    Default Hello

Hello, finally back in a nova, this is number 4 and is a miami blue 1.2 saloon. Have to say it's the most solid one to date and I'm absolutely loving it. This weekend I plan on doing a few bits, flushing coolant, brakes etc however it's been a while so need a bit of advice.

    1. What colour coolant should I use and where is the coolant drain plug?
    2. I have a polished rocker cover to go on however it's slightly different as it has a pipe attached to it on a raised section which I think is a breather however I'm not sure
    3. The choke light is constantly on however when I pull it out the light goes off but the cable goes back In by itself, there is also a smell of fuel from the engine bay.
    4. It was originally a 1 litre and on the current carb next to the fuel inlet there is blanked off pipe, I'm guessing it's either a fuel return line or a breather but I'm not sure.

Any help would be vastly appreciated, thanks everyone

colour of coolant is irrelevant, its the actual active chemicals, blue is just 2 year coolant and red is 4 i blue, on that premise use red. I wouldn't worry about the other types of coolant as virtually no car on the road these days uses them. what engine is in the carb? assuming its carb still so that rocker cover probably isn't standard to that engine anyway so you should be fine to loose it. the light is controlled by a little switch where the cable sits in the dash, sounds like it'll need a better look from yourself as it maybe getting caught on something. most of them engines smell a bit fuely especially if it has an aftermarket filter fitted. the blanked of pipe is probably return and it'd be an idea to plumb it in as some carbs don't like not having one, the 1.0 has no fuel return from factory so you would need a higher model tank to do a proper job or just t back into the feed although that isn't really a proper fix.

Thanks for all you're info, it must be a fuel return then as it's still got the 1.0 litre tank, why he did a conversion to a 1.2 I'll never know. It does have an aftermarket filter too so that must be a reason as to why she stinks. Thanks agaim going to do some digging this weekend.

The cover sounds like its from the Injection engines (1400/1600) with the breather. This isnt a huge issue to solve (pipe and filter on it, or pipe into catch tank)

The coolant drain is by taking off the bottom rad hose. Low tech. Flush it out with a hosepipe afterwards.
