Simply stick a 1400 8v bottom end & box in... it will fit. It will also give it about double the hp of the 12st, and look no different. Surely Holden sold 1400 8v things?

Would a 14NZ or 14SE be the same?

Nz is carb fed. 14se are multipoint injection. The injection head ports WILL not match.

I mean are the bottom ends the same? Would putting the 1200 head on a 1400 bottom end work well?

Nv head would work but would need diffrent manifolds and dizzy, 1200 head on a 1400 block would work not sure how well mind. You need a carb cam and carrier as the injections have no lobe for the fuel pump or cut out in the carrier

Mowgli has helped me a lot with small block advice. (my old white sr ) If you have the money go for a 1.6 8v. I spent a bit of time/ money on my 1.4 sr lump. and it went well. But my mates nova gsi running a cam was loads quicker. I now run the 1.6 and its the best pick of the bunch. Try and buy a low milage gte/gsi lump there much stronger than the newish 1.6 8v found in the astra g. Unless like me at the time tax/ insurance was an isshue.
