Default De catting a carb car.

Sorry it's a mini not Nova. I have a 1275 carb engine in my mini. It has been decated with a proper pipe and feels better, especially the torque.

The car should be 50bhp, do people reckon it will have improved power and what would be a rough estimate?

What year is the car? Cats came in in the early 90's.

Some carb cars had cats, it was law after 93. Metros have them too before they swapped to injection.

They have got there own law for mot emissions. Lol

I took the cat off my 1.2i nova back in the day and replaced with a straight through carb model pipe, I couldn't really notice much of a difference in performance. Might have got a whole 1bhp out of it! maybe...

The engine I think is from a 1992 model which were cat from the factory.

I know removing a cat from an injection car doesn't make any real difference but removal should help a carb car breathe better?

My mate runs a '90 1.6 carb Jetta with a passive cat, somehow helps bring the emissions down just a tad. As for original post, no idea. Best bet is rolling road, and see what happens

I was going to say. If a cat's been on a carb' car all that time its probably melted. In which case you will probably have some performance increase by removing it.
