    Default Nova rally 1400 16v

    Hi everyone,

I have been viewing the site for many years looking at the project threads but never posted. So I thought it was time to actually post my Nova rally car.

My brother and I have owned the nova for the last 14 years and its been constant development. It started out as an autotest/slarlom car which has now turned into a rally car.

We have been competing in special stage rallies across the south east for over 10 years now.

    The spec of the car:-
Bill falconer 1400 16v clubman spec engine 160bhp limited to 7800rpm
Quaife F15 SCCR gearbox 4.8 cwp
GPA plate diff with large side gears
    Harry Hockley driveshafts and hubs
    Bilstein 2.25 front coil overs
Bilstein rear shocks with pro-tec springs
    Quick rack
    EPAS power steering
    Golf rear disc conversion

This year we have been competing in selected rounds of MSVR motorsport news circuit rally championship.

    Results include:-
    Snetterton stages 2016 12th overall, 1st Class A
Brands Hatch Winter stages 2016, 20th overall, 1st class A
Rockingham Stages 2015 DNF (retired while leading class)

    Other national B Rallies:-
Goodwood Southdowns 2016 stages 5th overall, 1st Class
    Weathersfield stages 2015, 2nd overall 1st Class A
Goodwood south downs stages 2015, 3rd overall 1st Class A

I will get a photobucket account set up and post some pictures.

I have got some videos on youtube and there are pictures on flickr, but not sure if I am allowed to post links?

    Christopher

Way hey its the Brothers Newton! Welcome to the party (ahem), nice to see one of the quickest Rally Nova's making an appearance on here, even if it is already built.

I marshaled 'out the back' of Goodwood the last two years and your car was probably the quickest and smoothest round Lavant corner when the stages were reversed (anticlockwise round the circuit) very impressive. Unfortunately I never had the time to venture into the service area to track the car down.

If you've got any build photos I for one would be interested to see them put up here as a sort of "what we did" thread...

Ah Nova Bliss, Team Shonky eat your hearts out!!!!

Thanks for your kind comments, we do try. Julian wilks must have the fastest rally nova, but to be thought out as one of the fastest rally novas is an honour.

We we will be back out at goodwood South Downs states next year. Do you Marshall at any other events?

Well this thread will turn into a build thread, as we are in the process of rebuilding the nova into a new shell. Currently we have a shell at Harry hockley Motorsport have a fuel multipoint cage welded in with forward trianglelation to front turrets. We are hopefully collecting it from them next weekend.

we also have a corsa b rally car for gravel, which is in the process of having a bill falconer sequential fitted.

Your correct Julian's car is probably quicker, but then his car is pushing out something over 190 bhp if memory serves...! I think your results are speaking for you pretty well, 3rd O/A against 4 wheel drive cars plus Millington powered Escorts at Goodwood 2015 speaks volumes

Being based in Southampton/Salisbury area means I tend to stick to our local events such as Goodwood, Bovington, Down Ampney (just the one event this year), Abingdon CARnival (I'm out on Sunday) plus Smeatharpe. We used to do the Sunseeker and the Tempest etc but local venues seem to be going missing.

Your developments sound interesting, will have to check out HH's website to see if they've got your shell prep on there. Your comment about a sequential gearbox is intriguing, is Bill building a sequential gearbox now or is this his sequential gear change for 'H' pattern gearboxes?

Need to get my arse into gear and get on with my own car, but I will be watching this thread ready to steal any good ideas.

TBH you will probably be surprised how standard the car really is underneath.

Sorry for the confusion, I have one of Bill H pattern sequential shifters fitted in the corsa.

Collected my shell from Harry hockleys today, had a full multi point weld in roll cage fitted. The welding is brilliant, and very happy I made the decision to take it the 250 miles each way for them to fit it. Once I get 15 posts I will add some pictures.

Hi mate, can i ask how the Bill Falconer sequential shifter has performed when used in anger? I have just acquired one to put in my nova, i have a c16xe built by bill end of last year but not on the road yet. I plan to go hill climbing in the Scottish champs with it.

    Cheers Grant
