make a jig if you want to reuse the piston. otherwise I use a press but this tends to kill the piston.

Which engine? C20XE should be pushed out by hand / lightly tapped out via drift once circlip is removed & should float in small end & piston reassembled.

you need a cradle to hold the curve of the piston with a hole in the middle to let the pin push through. you need a hydraulic press, at the point you think its not going to move it pops and pushes through. a heat gun on the small end of the rod is supposed to help but I'm doubtful it makes any difference. you also need a good drift to push it through. An old pin that is turned down a mm is handy.

putting them in is the hard bit as they want to go in squint and dig in to the alloy piston. it digs in, scrapes off aluminium swarf and binds the piston to the pin. Ive worked out a way around this. its hard to explain in writing but I can try if you need to know.

Its good fun when you have spent a few hundred pounds on pistons and using them in an engine that you have spent thousands on. I found 200 lambert and butler helps the process a bit.

Nova pistons are easy compared to the 18xe1 pistons

If taking old ones out, warm the oiston and rod up properly in an oven then press it out. To fit new ones, put the Conroe in the oven and the pin in the freezer. Then press them together.
