had a couple of days off this week, managed to get a few bits done.
took the head apart and tried to keep it reasonably organised
cleaned the valves up and replaced the seals
gave the head and the bottom end a quick scrub
took the steering rack out and painted it gold just to be different
gave the engine bay a quick scrub while everything is out of the way

    inlet back on

    shiny!

Why didn't you pop the rubbers off the rack?

never even thought about it to be honest. only took the rack out so i could get the track rods off, then just decided to spray it while it was out

haven't had chance to do a great deal over the last few weeks, been busy painting various nova bits and some new wheels for my subaru so i can get them on before it decides to pack up.
anyway the head is back on the nova, new cambelt on, new thermostat in, new waterpump in, new radiator in, new plugs, new oil filter

and a quick one of my scooby wheels not bad for a rattle can job.
got a couple of little bits left to do but hopefully i can get the nova started tomorrow

got the nova started tonight, no horrible noises or leaks from what i can see, didnt have it running for long though as it was reasonably late.
and i know most of you guys on here could probably change a 1.2 headgasket in your sleep but i've never done it before and have only basic car mechanic experience soo i'm well chuffed

    anyway, a few more pictures

picked up some rear shocks and springs off a lad just down the road from me on facebook, gave them a quick paint, not sure how well the paint will last,
primed and painted the rocker cover, again not sure if the paint will last but it looks good at the mo

First head gasket change is always a biggie, so I know the relief when it runs again. Get it up to temp and give it a compression test

after more faffing and generally not getting much done i've noticed a thin bead of oil on the front of the engine between the head and the cam case.

started it a few times now, got it up to temperature and given the head bolts and extra 30 degree turn and it doesnt seem to be leaking down the engine or getting anyworse.
the only other thing is when it gets up to temp the exhaust starts to leak between the manifold and the downpipe and it gets quite smokey, tried adjusting it and it doesn't want to go away.

haven't had much chance to do stuff to the nova recently, nothing new there... mainly because me and my girlfriend have bought a house together muhaha scary stuff.. and my insurance is up on the subaru next week and i cant justify spending another 800 odd quid on insurance and 40 quid on petrol per week, so it's time for a change...
anyway, i've got the engine running smooth now after adjusting the carb and choke cable properly, and fitting a new exhaust gasket ring thingy and i've started attacking the bodywork with filler/wire wheel/sander etc...
i've also bought myself a toffee wheel after hearing many good reviews.. and it's flippin great

Dont press so hard and it wont make as much mess, but will still lift the glue.

kind of forgot where i was with this, need to start updating it more often
i was originally planning to get this on the road for pvs but i've been too busy sorting out new house and new car stuff so that hasn't happened, so the next aim is to get it to retro rides..
anyway, been doing some general sanding, filling and poking around for rust
