    Default Anyone running Windows 8/8.1?

I want to buy the other half a new laptop but they are all running Windows 8/8.1 these days.
Had a go on 8 and found it horrific personally.

Quick question, can you still install anything you want on it? (Just like "normal" Windows)
Can you still have files/folders etc etc?

Or can you only use app's off the Microsoft store like on phone/tablet?? And then only use the buttons on the start screen (desktop)?

    Cheers

    Default

The 8.1 update installed the start button to the bottom right on screen, that was the main problem with 8

Just install a desktop tile on the tile page click on that and it's a 'normal' windows set up

You can install everything like before

Took me a while but I prefer it now

    Cool.
So how do you (or did you before .1) open installed programs?
    Just through an app's button/tile???

    Either on the tile page

Or install shortcut on desktop page

The tile page is really just for touch screen use
