Question Anyone on these forums from the South of Scotland?

Hi guys, going to be purchasing my first Vauxhall Nova in the near future and I am looking for some local lads who could possibly support the build and help out with some useful advice? I am actually studying an NC in Welding and Fabrication so the cutting and molding side to it suits me, its more the mechanical side.
    Cheers in advance

    Jamie

hi, welcome to png. you have come to the right place & if you are learning to weld, then you are already on the right path.

we have a heap of knowledge on here, and if it isn't in the articles, just ask us.

what sort of plans do you have?

if you become a member, there is a scotland specific section

One of my friends might be selling me his J Reg 1.2 Registered Nova, clean shell with all these extras either on the car or boxed up - 1.6 8 valve with 1.3 head ported by john Mckean, dellorto twin 40 carburettors with genuine irmscher inlet manifold, piper bp300 rally camshaft, piper hydraulic tappets, piper followers, kent cam pulley, full sportex exhaust system with 4 branch manifold.
Always wanted a Nova but I am now turning 19 with a years NCB so the time feels right to save my pennies and finally get one. Got any advice on what I should look for etc? Thanks

A XE boosted engine would be swell but my insurance would be out of bounds so I want to keep the car for doing this down the line but realistically a 1.6 is fast enough for the time being. Some of my friends know there engines inside out and are also trained welders or mechanics so doing the car should be a great challenge for us but it would be great if someone near Dumfries had a nova and knew what to look for or any tips and advice.

haha, no I would get it declared straight away if i did purchase the motor. Got the money to buy it but i want enough so I can really get to work on it rather than having it just sitting feeling sorry for itself
