Default Head gasket change / maintenance guidance needed

    the story,

All water pipes were all presurizing so everything came out for a gasket change. Suspected failure due to seeing "thinning" in area where a seal circle was, between water jacket and the piston .. So all block top cleaned up with soft brush and piston tops cleaned up to aswell as wet and dry papered it clean to a shine. The whole thing was carbon fouled, so gasket must of been blown for a while.

Under side of head has been cleaned in same way, to clean up mating surface of head and block, the question is :- should I clean up the valves and re-seat them ?
A mechanic minded fella has said "the valves could do with grinding and lapping in .. Itll help keep it running smoother" .. Advice please ?

Its a 1.0 and ran very sh***y .. Misfiring, erratic idle, rattly tone (does have oval exhaust) will doing the valves help in anyway after also cleaning up the inlet ?

Thanks for reading, any help appreciated and rep'd

Doesn't hurt to clean the values up and re lap them in, all the heads I've removed I've always done it

hope u have a least checked the head with a straight edge as Probley would need a skim

Cheers for the info .. Will be looking for tools for the job then, plus never know anytime I get another head off they'll come in handy.
