Yeah i think im going to strip the dash out and attack it from the inside, cut out the rust and see what im left with and then take it from there. looks like an early start in the morning.

I keep thinking that it might be easier from the front of the car then from inside, I really need to just get the dash out and see, but just haven't had time to. Thanks.

It will take about 40mins to whip the dash out but will be worth it. I had similar problems in the same area and got to most from the wheel arch and engine bay but had to do a little in the car too. Check my build thread.

It's the other side, did the battery tray with Corsa servo mod at the same time but hopefully it helps. At the very least it might give you some inspiration.
I had never done anything similar before, just a few patches. Anything's possible though. Try and replace like for like. So if you cut out two skins, replace it with two layers of new metal if that makes sense. Oh and try not to leave the country for a month half way through the job, its hard to get back into it!!
And you'd be amazed how far hot welding spatter and sparks can go. If it wasn't for a well placed fire extinguisher and a bit of luck this would have been a scorched black mess. Cover your seats etc with something fire proof or better still, remove everything.
    Good luck.

Thanks very much, hopefully I'll have some new pictures soon to show how much Ive had to cut out. I think I'll be removing the whole interior to do this job.

Nice repair job, nice metal work fab too.
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi
    Far from suicidal
    Still I get them tendencies
    Bringing back them memories
That I really miss when I reminisce
