    Default Project NovalutionSting

Well I've been without a project for around 6 years now after loosing the love with my GSi, plus life changes of moving into mine and the missus' first house together.
So the last time the GSi was at a show was Billing 2007 and Trax 2007

SO running forward to last weekend. Lou and I dragged what was left of the GSi out of the garage in preparation of what is to come later in this post.

then this weekend I picked up this little gem. a 1989 G reg 1.2 Nova Sting, 3 owners from new with 74k on the clock.

Pretty tidy, needs some rust clearing but a hell of a lot better than the GSi! Plans, well as I've kept hold of the GSi 1.6 lump that will be going in, loose the Red wheels, they will be sold on. better brakes but above all enjoying it!

You'd had it sitting hiding for 7 years? Crazy. New one looks very nice and tidy!
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi
    Far from suicidal
    Still I get them tendencies
    Bringing back them memories
That I really miss when I reminisce

It pains me to say it but yes, it was tucked away, but I had lost the love for it. Plus it never was a true GSi, only by name on the v5!

So there has been some movement on the car.
fitted an old GSi back box I had

    Clear indicators as well

    The #OhSoRetro sticker

    Euro Rear Cluster

    In the Garage!

Wheels looking at fitting soon, need arches rolling.

    Bonnet Struts fitted

    Bilsteins being refurbed

Gave her a Clean and Wax... resaultant beading!

So slow progress but getting there. need to sort the arches before the wheels disappear.

Nice looking motor that, looks like this will be a very clean nova when finished.

Loved the look of the old gsi before hand also. Don't know why but loved those novadose grills on the mk1s

How do you fall out of love with your nova?

A smoothed rear bumper like that, dare I say it, might even look better than a MK2 item.

Novadose Grill will be remaining away from the Sting, I'm not trying to recreate my GSi, but it will be similar.

It spent 6 years in the garage while we were doing things to the House or I was working away or fixing my Corsa Sport. so managed to rebuild the Engine on the GSi after 3 years! then looked at the shell, not that you can see it from the picture at the top but the bulkhead had gone rotten due to a poorly fitted windscreen and sadly my welding talents don't exist! however, even though the Sting maybe a 1.2 and be in desperate need of a front anti roll bar the love for the nova is back!

So hopefully soon the project will pick up some pace. Will be picking the Nova up at the weekend after getting the arches adjusted to fit the Alloys. so while the Nova has been out of the garage I've been able to get on with a small refurb of the shocks and make some progress with the other half's replacement ZR front wing.

just starting to clean up the fronts to spray.

Then reading plenty of threads on how to fit a Digi Dash into a Mk1 dash and hearing of all the cutting on the Mk1 dash I thought I would have a go and go about it in a different way, I have 2 sets anyway so to butcher one set didn't really bother me. my thinking is that the Digi clocks must be able to fit some how with out carrying out dash mods. so I started trimming!

as you can see the PCB does stick out slightly to far so some careful trimming was required. however once I had got to this stage I realised that once all back together again it still wouldn't fit. So I had an idea, why couldn't I fit the clocks in a deconstructed design. the LCD part with the mileage would sit in the Mk1 dash perfectly (ish!) and allow for the rest to sit behind the dash maybe attached to the steering column support bracket. it would have to have flying leads for all the lamps etc but I think it could be possible.

On a simple mod front, have bought a set of clear side repeaters and chromed amber blubs.
